On this spot, in 1982, the City of Berkeley's only attempt at the nation's first off leash cat park. In response to the growing number of dog parks, the city council set aside space for other pets.
This innovative feline park included artificial trees, box forts, and sand lots.
The park was permenantly [sic] closed in 1983 due to many unfortunate cat-related lawsuits,
