Memorial Sidewalk

Shattack Ave. & Vine St.

On this spot, this sidewalk honors Julius Colchester, the inventor of Berkeleys sidewalks. Originally described by Mr. Colchester in 1859 as, "…a defined walkway designated for the egress of drivers during times between—to and from—the operation of motorcarriages."

Erratum

Shattuck Ave. & Vine St.

On this spot, due to a typographical error, the plaque located above mistakenly refers to the word "Shattack, (silent film actor and gadabout Bartolomeu Shattack) Instead of "Shattuck" (real estate mogul and civic leader Francis Shattuck). Apologies if there is any confusion caused by this error.

Thanks to LEG for providing me with the location of this plaque!
